Guitars, Amps, and Speakers

Electric and Acoustic Guitars

Depending on the styles of music performed, I use one of four different guitars:

  • Contemporary music: A traditional Tele or super Strat both made by skilled luthier Matt Levonian. A parlor-sized Luna guitar with a Fishman Matrix pickup system.

  • Classical music: Fender Lucero acoustic nylon string guitar with a Fishman pickup.

Kemper Amplifiers and Kerry Wright speaker cabinets

For nearly 30 years, I used only tube amplifiers, the last one made by electronics wizard Gary McClellan. In 2016, I had as student who urged me to try a Kemper Profiler. He recommended I purchase better quality profiles than the stock ones.

To my ears and feel, the Kemper remarkably close to the tube amplifiers I had used. Considering its versatility and light weight, this has been my main amplifier ever since.

Depending on the venue, I connect the amplifier through either a 1x12" or 2x12" custom speaker cabinet by the late Kerry Wright. Kerry made the best-sounding cabinets I have ever heard! I met Kerry through a dear friend, Jim Cole, a walking encyclopedia of guitar-related equipment.
